Plan for Our Future: Many Voices - One Minnesota As Minnesota's Sesquicentennial draws near, communities all across the state will be discussing how to ensure a thriving, innovative future for all Minnesotans. In the next few months, community leaders and citizens in our area will gather as part of the Minnesota Sesquicentennial's Plan for our Future project. The purpose of the Plan for Our Future project forums is to provide a snapshot of Minnesotans' ideas for the future at the crossroads of our 150th year. It will ask, and thru citizen input, answer the question, "What type of state do you want to leave to your children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren? And, given where we're at right now, and the trends we see, what are the key issues and challenges we have to deal with to make that future real? " There will be at least one Plan for Our Future forum in each of Minnesota's 87 counties in the hope that every Minnesotan will have the opportunity to weigh in. Even if community members miss the public forum in their community, the Sesquicentennial is creating an on-line survey and discussion group at their website www.mn150years.org where individuals can add their voice to the discussion. Our Community Conversations in Northwestern Minnesota: These seven upcoming community conversations will be thoughtful, interesting discussions centered around the Plan for our Future questions. Mara Wittman, planner at the NWRDC, will be facilitating the discussion. Mara also will provide information on the exciting activities occurring next year in our region to celebrate the sesquicentennial. She is available to help groups or cities interested in participating in the second Legacy or Micro grant rounds work with the grant application form. You can attend the forum in your county or go to the one that fits your schedule. A variety of times are available to accommodate different preferences.
These will be public meetings so everyone is welcome and no RSVP is required. Participants are simply encouraged to show up with their values in hand and ideas for Minnesota's future in mind. The goal of the forums and online survey is to have input from citizens across all 87 counties in Minnesota. After all the forums have been held, the Sesquicentennial Commission will compile the results into a comprehensive document to be used as a blueprint for current and future leaders at regional, state, and national levels concerning Minnesota's future. The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council has received a $5,000.00 matching grant from the Sesquicentennial Committee to plan and implement a special visual art show. For more on this project>>> |
