Art Reflecting on Minnesota's 150 Years of Statehood

We are excited to announce that the Arts Council has received a sesquicentennial grant to coordinate a special art exhibit.  The art exhibit will feature 150 new pieces of artwork.  All the pieces will be created within 5" acrylic cubes.  The cubes will be on display at various galleries throughout the region from May - December 2008.  The show will include a catalog and reception at each location.

The galleries who will be part of the tour are:

  • May and June:  Northland Community Technical College gallery, 1101 Hwy 1 East, Thief River Falls  218-681-0701

  • July and August: Fosston Library Arts Center gallery, 403 N. Foss Ave., Fosston 218-435-1320

  • September and October:  Campbell Library, 422 4th St. NW, East Grand Forks  218-773-9121

  • November and December: Roseau Library, City Center Building, Center St., Roseau  218-463-2825

If you would like your space to be considered as a location for the exhibit, please email mara@nwrdc.org

The cubed pieces have been created by schools and art groups throughout the area.  Our region has 26 public schools, several private schools, and three colleges.  Each school was given four cubes to distribute, design, create, and then return.  The cubes above were returned on Minnesota's Winter, Itasca State Park, Chippewa Powwows, and Influenza Pandemic.

There are a few cubes left to complete if you are interested, please contact Mara immediately.  Individuals can come to our office and get one cube.  You must leave a $10.00 deposit which will be returned to you when you return the completed cube.  This will ensure that we have a full exhibit of 150 cubes.  We hope that you will participate.  It should be a fun show.

All cubed pieces will be the property of the Arts Council.  We anticipate that the pieces will continue to tour past the initial year.  We reserve the right to group the pieces together in smaller configurations at semi-permanent locations in the future.

TIMELINE:
