ABOUT THE DIRECTORY

The Northwest Directory of Artists and Arts Organizations is a listing of area artists, arts organizations, and organizations with arts activities. Each listing contains an address, phone number and a description of their interest in the arts. Libraries and schools in the northwest counties of Minnesota are also listed. Participation in the directory is free to all residents of the area served.  Detailed entry information is listed based on the following disciplines categories: Dance, Music, Theater, Literary Art, Visual Art, and Multi-disciplinary.  Or see the index page for all the artists and organizations listed.    

This directory is a direct program of the Northwest Regional Arts Council with funding from the State of Minnesota and The McKnight Foundation.  The Arts Council is an advisory committee to the Northwest Regional Development Commission serving the Minnesota counties of Kittson, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau. 

UPDATES AND PRINTING

The Northwest Arts Council Director, Mara Wittman, updates the printed directory annually in December, the directory in the website is updated continually. The directory is printed in January, if requested the directory is reprinted during the year.  

INDIVIDUAL ARTIST PARTICIPATION

Throughout the year, individual artists are asked to participate in our artist registry. In November, all artists listed in the registry are invited to be listed in the new directory - often this requires supplying additional information. Participation in the registry and directory is free with only a limited juried process.  If you would like to be listed please complete, print out and return our registry form or call Mara Wittman, Arts Council Director, and request a form 218-745-6733.  The Arts Council will determine whether individuals living outside of our service area will be listed on a case by case basis.  Our service area is the Minnesota counties of Kittson, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau.

ORGANIZATION PARTICIPATION

Any arts organizations within or directly serving the northwest counties of Minnesota can be listed in the directory. The Arts Council will determine whether non-arts or organizations outside of the service area will be listed on a case by case basis.

USE OF THE DIRECTORY

The index lists all the entries in the directory by alphabet.  A second list sorts organizations by county.  If you know what type of discipline you are looking for you can go directly to the pages related to Dance, Music, Theater, Literary Art, Visual Art, and Multi-disciplinary.

WHERE THE INFORMATION COMES FROM

All information on arts organizations, including, contact name, number and address came from our office database. Be aware that these organizations are almost all volunteer and it is difficult to keep the information updated.

Our office has listed each organization according to their primary discipline and briefly described their programs or services. We would be happy to update your organizations entry! We would love to use your own words and promote your group more accurately. Call our office with suggestions.

Many of the individual artists listed have worked in a variety of situations and would be more than happy to provide you with references and work samples. Remember the artists listed do not go through a juried process. This directory should not serve as an endorsement of their capabilities or qualifications.
